This Year's Model Updates:

Only minor changes are made to Chevrolet's bread-and-butter Silverado pickup for 2002. Some options packages have been revamped for easier ordering and all extended-cab models now come standard with a four-speed automatic transmission, with the manual no longer available.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

Bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado in 2004. It had 39,000 miles on it. I was a bit nervous I was paying too much but I was betting the engine would make my deal a sweet one. Ive got a bit over 230,00 miles on it now. Itll be ten years ago this fall I bought it. NEVER had an issue. NOT one. Had to have the fuel injection-stuff cleaned out at about 185k miles... that kinda sucked but I guess it comes with maintenance. Lookn for a vehicle for my twin sons. Seems every vehicle I look up, including this truck, someone has had transmission issues. I felt compelled to write a review on my Chevy. NO ISSUES. EVERRR!!! God Bless this TRUCK!!!

This is my second Silverado. All complaints I had about the previous truck have been addressed on this new one. Much tighter turning radius than my 97. Much roomier extended cab. Controls are all placed very conveniently.

Great all around truck! Very smooth ride. Feels better than driving a car. Interior is comfortable. Awesome power. Everything a truck should be. A few adjustments need to be made though. Otherwise the best truck out there. I tow a boat and have a 5 point wiring hook up, this truck only has a 7 point hook-up. This requires me to buy an adapter. The rear a/c vent is a plus! I think a rear locking differential would have been better than limited slip.

Got it used, have had it for almost a year. Ive only put about 6k miles on it. So far so good. Only fault that I have are 2 things. The seats set down too low. It feels as if your in a great big truck while driving making it hard to judge the front. I think the torsion bars are wore plum out bc when I turn wheels & hit bumps it sounds as if its gonna fall apart. Im a mechanic so everything else is sound. But hey, with 226,000 miles cant really complain. Id say in its day it was a top of the line truck. Good power. Transmission shifts flawlessly. Im gonna see if I can get 300,000 on it. Lol. Update: it’s been a few months since my review. I changed the torsion bars bushings & it seemed to fix the problem. Now when I make turns it’s like a normal truck. I’ve had a few problems with rusted out shock mount on the rear but I got all that lined out as well. Overall, one of the best trucks I’ve ever owned. Dependable, rides good, 4x4 works like it should, good power, handles good. Can’t really complain seeing that it’s got 235,000 miles now!

Tailgate doesnt fit, gaps on sides. Also, tailgate release handle cheap plastic. Overall, nice truck...3,000 miles so far. Quick off the line.

  • Awesome Truck for anyone - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Truck handels nicly in all terrains, and weather conditions. the 4.3 v-6 is quite powerful and the automatic transmission is much better handeling than the f-150 or and Dodge.

All I have been wanting for three years is an Ext. Cab Chevy 4x4. So I went out and spent more than I could afford, and man IT WAS WORTH IT. I enjoy everything about my truck except the gas mileage. I knew it would be low so Im not disappointed. I really enjoy the ride comfort and the braking ability for a large vehicle. Nice Truck!

Drove this truck off the lot with 17 miles on the ODO, 14 years ago. 230 k miles later I would drive it across the country without hesitation. I have towed and towed with this truck...probably 85k....towed items heavier than the truck mostly. MOBIL1 syn oil from 1000 miles on...it makes a difference. Only negative comment is weak transmissions, a GM hallmark in my ownership of many GM vehicles, this one was not an exception...you geto 100k or so out of a trans. Other than that...GREAT TRUCK.

I purchased the vehicle in 2004 with 15,000 miles from original owner. I have had no problems with this vehicle. This vehicle is our first choice to use on long trips because of its comfortable ride. Its more like drive a luxury vehicle than what you typical expect from a truck ride.
